Ele emigrou para os EUA na década de 30, fugindo à perseguição dos judeus que aprisionou e executou seus 7 irmãos. Nos EUA seu método de cura foi atacado e visto com ceticismo pelo National Cancer Institute (NCI), uma organização cada vez mais suspeita de ligações com os interesses bilionários dos carteis farmacêuticos. A "Industria do Câncer" movimenta cerca de 200 bilhões de dólares por ano (dados de 2004). O Dr. Max Gerson foi, em 1958, vítima de roubo do manuscrito do livro que estava escrevendo e ao mesmo tempo vítima de envenenamento, quase fatal. Recuperado, reescreveu seu livro mas foi novamente envenenado em 1959 indo a falecer aos 78 anos.
